“He was like, “It’s authentic Vietnamese. I read about it on Yelp!” I was like, “It’s not authentic, OK?” You can tell, first and foremost, by the name, ’cause it don’t got a number in it.”
-Ali Wong, Baby Cobra [2016]
One of the greatest food revolutions in the last five years has been the explosion of Vietnamese food in Salt Lake City, and with it, the popularization of the banh mi sandwich in SLC. With authentic phở spots like Pho Tay Ho becoming busier than ever, popular chains like Oh Mai popping up throughout the Valley, and new family-owned Vietnamese restaurants opening their doors, it’s safe to say that Salt Lake City has embraced the complex flavors of Vietnam in a huge way. And as a big fan of the banh mi sandwich, I am beyond excited for the new options.
With more SLC banh mi options, our Best Banh Mi in Salt Lake City list is always expanding. Be sure to comment below with your favorite SLC banh mi spot and tell us which sandwich we got to try next!
