If you take Guy Fieri’s words as church (as you should), then the best Philly cheesesteaks in Salt Lake City might be some of the best in the country. More than a few of SLC’s Philly cheesesteak hotspots have been featured on the Mayor of Flavortown’s seminal program Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, to the point where I don’t think anyone really needs to go to Philadelphia. Besides, Philadelphia is far too difficult to spell on the first try. I may have broken Spell Check writing this. Even Philadelphians call it “Philly” because they can’t spell it right on the first try.
It makes sense why Salt Lake City has so many great Philly cheesesteak options. At its heart, a Philly cheesesteak is a meat sandwich covered in processed cheese. We’ve got a meat and spray cheese vibe here. An aura of whiz. Describe a Philly cheesesteak to someone who hasn’t had one before and you’ll get the same reaction you’d get when you mention Salt Lake City to someone who hasn’t been here before.
